My Story

The meltdown/mid-life crisis that ACTUALLY turned out to be the game-changer for me hit shortly after I was laid off from my fancy gig at a Fortune 100 entertainment company. For years, I was laser-focused on my career and, honestly, wasn’t nailing it in other areas of life—but I didn’t really notice because, hey, I had a great job! The layoff, though, was a blessing in disguise. I knew it deep down because I’d stopped loving my job about two years before and was floundering in just about every aspect of life.

Fast forward about four months post-layoff. I’d been hustling to build a business, but there I was, sitting at my computer, staring blankly at the screen, wondering what the h*ll I was actually doing with my life. As I aimlessly scrolled through Facebook, I stumbled upon some posts about ADHD. Poor time management and organization, difficulty sticking to routines, struggling to complete tasks I wasn’t interested in, easily distracted, missing details, being forgetful, hyperfocus and lack of focus, food issues—wait, WHAT?! Hold up, this is ME.

I immediately made an appointment with my therapist, talked to my husband, and called up my best friend. Turns out, this had been me forever, but it was now magnified without the structured environment of my corporate gig. So, what now?

I threw myself into learning about ADHD (of course, it became my new hyperfocus) so I could figure out how to leverage it to succeed and live a balanced life. I realized that for years, I had been masking it and overcompensating for it. I’d dive into multiple interests only to get paralyzed by “all the things,” info dumping, revenge bedtime procrastination, struggling with time blindness—basically just being STUCK. Then one day, it finally clicked! It wasn’t about finding the right medication or forcing myself (a square peg) into the “normal life” (a round hole). The greatest discovery was learning to finally listen to my body and mind instead of doing what I thought I was “supposed” to do. Keep it simple, find accountability partners, set boundaries, and prioritize myself so I could have the energy and focus I needed.

And guess what? Now, I feel fantastic! I have a successful business, I’m organized, I practice daily self-care, I have an entire arsenal of ways to manage stress, and I’m giving 150% to both work and home life! (Oh, and I’ve lost 30 pounds—and still going!)
